WARNER BROS. CLICKS ITS HEELS TOGETHER WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY FOR “THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME” CAMPAIGN

group20cjcc.jpg

Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP), Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) and Warner Bros. Entertainment Corporate Responsibility (WBE) partnered last week with Habitat for Humanity to launch “There’s No Place Like Home,” a campaign celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the classic film, The Wizard of Oz™. The year-long program kicked off on September 24th with a digital fundraising campaign and, throughout the year, will feature several themed initiatives and events supporting Habitat for Humanity’s work to create decent, safe and affordable housing in partnership with low-income families.“Warner Bros. Consumer Products has been fortunate to delight fans of The Wizard of Oz through the years with a multitude of products, and our ‘There’s No Place Like Home’ campaign is an extension of our appreciation for this classic film and those who love it,” said Brad Globe, president, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “The initiative will not only drive excitement among the iconic film’s legions of fans, it will help generate important funds for Habitat for Humanity – a fitting partnership as we celebrate this milestone anniversary.” To donate, go here or click the photo above.

“Warner Bros. is committed to making positive contributions to the communities in which we work and live,” said Susan Fleishman, executive vice president, Worldwide Corporate Communications & Public Affairs, Warner Bros. Entertainment.  “As the studio has enjoyed a long partnership with Habitat for Humanity, this serves as an ideal opportunity for us to use the affinity for a classic title like The Wizard of Oz to create awareness and support for such a worthy cause.”

“Every day, in locations all around the world, we see how having a decent home can change lives and transform communities,” said Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International. “Adequate and affordable housing is foundational, and stable housing is inextricably linked to better health, education and livelihood opportunities. The simple statement is true:  There’s no place like home.”

In conjunction with the build for Habitat for Humanity, Warner Bros. sponsored the creation of a mural at the local neighborhood library that continued the theme, "There's No Place Like Home." Artist James C. Mulligan and the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity along with the Warner Bros. volunteers created a 24' long mural that will hang in the library for all to enjoy.

Egyptian Theater Gets Looney with Chuck Jones!

LA20Times20916201320cjcc20blog.jpg

Terrific article by Susan King in today's Los Angeles Times about the upcoming film tribute on Chuck Jones's 101st birthday, Saturday, September 21 at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. She writes in part:Linda Jones considered herself "incredibly lucky" to have had a father like Chuck Jones, the Oscar-winning animation director of Warner Bros. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies fame.

"He was probably the best father anybody could have," said Linda Jones, an only child. "His father had a difficult time being a father, and he vowed he would never impose that kind of difficulty and challenge on a child."

Her dad, she said, "was pretty much a 9 to 5 guy. He didn't bring his work home with him." Follow this link to read entire article.

“Creativity is me just being me,” said Laura Tanimoto, one of the evening’s special guests. Inspired by Chuck Jones, Laura has participated in classes and volunteered at the Center over the past year. Her donated artwork for the Red Dot Auction was one of the most hotly contested of the evening’s silent auctions.

“We are excited to share the major milestones the Center has produced this past year,” said Craig Kausen, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Center and Chuck’s grandson. “And it will also help explain the important work we do. It is a challenge these days to find adequate arts education; creativity is one of the most important attributes of highly successful scientists, mathematicians, and business leaders. The Center is committed to helping everyone, but particularly children, find the creative genius that resides in each of us.”

About the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity: The Center was founded in 1999 by four-time Academy Award recipient and legendary animation creator and director, Chuck Jones. The Center’s vision is to inspire the innate creative genius within each person that leads to a more joyous, passionate, and harmonious life and world.

These are important goals, particularly in today’s world, when arts education is practically non-existent; we are dedicated to re-invigorating the creative spirit and we are doing it through art classes, exhibitions, lectures, and film festivals, all of which spring from the material in the Chuck Jones archive. Jones was a determined saver and his writings, art, and other ephemera from a nine-decade life, along with his philosophy of guiding and nurturing instruction, form the basis of our programs.

About Steve Landes: From New York’s famed Broadway to the West End in London, Steve Landes has been performing to packed houses. An original Broadway cast member of the show, “RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles” (Winner, 2011 Drama Desk Award for ‘Outstanding Revue’), Steve is currently touring worldwide with the show, in the role of John Lennon. When not on tour with RAIN, Steve performs solo with acoustic guitar, singing soulful versions of some of the greatest pop songs from the past five decades.

New work from Mick Victor: "Yellow and Blue"

In a recent interview, Mick said about "Yellow and Blue", "I'm so not fancy. In fact my camera is mostly simple and is really just a necessary capturing device. I don't do ANY photoshop as I try to make sure everything happens in my Canon SLR first.

Sometimes I turn down the exposure and mid tones a little but that's kind of it. The vibe you have to enter to "see" these in alleys etc is different and I LOVE that side of the art.The mere juxtaposition is so amazing. This weekend when I captured these two pieces in a downtown LA alley there were these guys about 10 feet from me smoking a massive amount of dope [clouds] but it mixed well with the overwhelming urine smell by the wall right where I was shooting.

OK so then right in the middle of all that there is this beauty. This sort of "morning yellow and blue" that's at first glance, shadowy and dingy as hell but when your camera looks at it only.... and you give it plenty of light, then it's like you're living in one world [piss and dope] but your eyes and your mind and soul are in a perfectly other beautiful space. And that's where I like to stay for as long as I find safety and peace or excitement or exhilaration.

Framing, reframing, reconsidering, re-shooting."

animation20class20flyer20staging20-20small.jpg

The 12 Principles of Animation Workshops - Staging

This principle is similar to staging as it is know in the theatre and film. Its purpose is to direct the audience's attention, and make it clear. What is of greatest importance in a scene; what is happening, and what is about to happen. The presentation of any idea so that it is completely and unmistakably clear. Whether that idea is an action, a personality, an expression or a mood.

Rising Country Rock/Blues Star, Andrew Combs, to Headline Benefit at Chuck Jones Center for Creativity

Andrew20Combs2020020px.gif

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 17, 2013Andrew Combs, Willie Watson and Willy Tea Taylor Headline Orange County Benefit Show

Tickets go on Sale May 23rd; funds support music and arts education in schools

LOS ANGELES, May 15, 2013 – On Thursday, June 27th, Nashville recording artist Andrew Combs, Old Crow Medicine Show co-founder Willie Watson and Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit frontman Willy Tea Taylor will take part in a special acoustic concert at the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity in Costa Mesa, CA.

The performance will be part of the “Blackwing Sessions” music series in conjunction with the Blackwing Experience, a travelling exhibit honoring creativity and the woodcased pencil. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Blackwing Foundation and its efforts to further arts and music education in schools.

No Depression Magazine named Taylor “one of the most important American singer/songwriters of our time.” Saving Country Music compared Taylor’s songwriting to “those now legendary recordings of Paul Simon in his post-Garfunkel days.”

Watson spent 13 years as lead vocalist and songwriter for Old Crow Medicine Show. Paving the way for other roots bands like Mumford and Sons and the Lumineers, OCMS is best known for taking an unfinished Bob Dylan song (“Wagon Wheel”) and turning it into a cult classic. Watson partook in the historic “Railroad Revival Tour”, traveling to concerts throughout the Southwest exclusively by vintage trains and capturing every moment for the “Big Easy Express,” winner of the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Long Form Music Video.

Combs’ “Worried Man” ranked as the highest debut album on American Songwriter Magazine’s annual list of 50 Best Albums of the Year in 2012.  In their album review, American Songwriter declared, “In a world full of pretenders, the Texas bred, Nashville based Combs is the genuine article.”

Along with individual sets, the evening will feature an “in the round” session, during which all three musicians and other special guests will perform original compositions while discussing the songwriting process.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday, May 23rd at 10:00 AM PDT at BlackwingSessions.com.

The Blackwing Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2012 by Charles and Ginger Berolzheimer to develop and enhance arts and music programs at the K-12 level.

“We have dedicated ourselves to developing and supporting programs that have a sustainable, positive impact on arts and music engagement for children who might otherwise not have these opportunities,” said Charles Berolzheimer, founder of Palomino and revivalist of the Blackwing pencil. “Money from this show will help us continue to build strong partnerships in 2013 and beyond.”
