The classes listed below are our current offerings at the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity.  We welcome your suggestions for programs as well. 

 

Drop In and Draw

Every Saturday from 9:30a-12:30p

It's a great place to express yourself creatively. Good for children of all ages (must be accompanied by an adult.) Christopher Scardino, the Center's teaching artist, leads each session in a nurturing and guiding manner best suited for the flowering of creative genius! Free, but a nominal donation is suggested to help cover the costs of materials. Join us and let you and your children's inner Picassos shine!

 

Saturday Morning Cartoons and Quick Draw

First Saturday of every month from 11:30a-12:30p

Join Bugs Bunny, Marvin the Martian, Wile E. Coyote & the Road Runner along w/all their friends for Saturday Morning Cartoons!... 'And have FUN drawing too! We'll watch & explore the magical world of Chuck Jones, legendary director & animator! The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity inspires joy and innovation in people of all ages, energizing them to transform their lives, their communities, and society as a whole.  The best way to tap into the creative energy that dwells inside us is to trust our minds  & hands, NOT overthink the process.  Whether it's watching a cartoon or your child at play, we hold onto these moments through pictures, sounds & feelings, in which we store away as brilliant memories.  Chuck Jones would do the same thing, only he would recall those memories and express them through his art. Chuck Jones cartoons & drawing!... 'And of course, FUN!

 

Pastel-icous with Christopher Scardino

Every Wednesday from 3:30-4:30p

Pastels are the perfect medium to capture the moment and learn how to paint with them with our Resident Teaching Artist, Chris Scardino. You'll learn different techniques to this rich medium and use the loveable Chuck Jones characters and vivacious animation cels as inspiration.

 

Dynamic Dioramas with Christopher Scardino

What is a diorama? A diorama is a mini-world -- think of an entire landscape in a shoebox! With the creative guidance from our Resident Teaching Artist Chris Scardino, you'll plan, design and create your own diorama. Not only will you watch Chuck Jones animation for inspiration, but you'll be surrounded by vibrant and familiar artwork of Chuck Jones at the Center.

 

Artables by Gina Latora

Gina's "Artables" class is particularly well-suited for children 1 1/2-12 years old. The earlier a child begins to discover the world of art, the earlier they develop self-confidence and are able to articulate visually their own ideas.  It begins with glue and goes from there. There will be painting -- not always with a brush -- your child will be surprised at the 'tools' that are used as well as the 'paint'. Adult attendance is required; please wear your painting attire! Gina Latora, artist and educator, has been providing art classes for children and preschoolers in Orange and Los Angeles Counties for over eighteen years.

Enjoy dinner with the kids, but have them nearby! "Drop Off" your children at the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity and "Dine" at one of the restaurants at SoCo or The OC Mix. Your kids will participate in various creative activities with the inspiration of Chuck Jones's animation, film and fine art.

 

Girl Scouts Badge Classes

We offer many new and creative ways to earn portions of your Girls Scouts Journeys and badges. We can work with your Troop to accommodate a date and time so everyone can be present. Classes will be available for all levels of Girl Scouts. We are willing to work with all Troops to schedule a class or come up with your own ideas and see what we can do to make your Journey in Girl Scouts easier and fun!

 

 

All of these classes are designed to encourage thinking beyond the obvious, to stretch, and to grow beyond their expectations.  Developing basic skill sets (drawing, painting, composition, color) is a priority. The environment in which these classes occur is one of nurturing guidance and fun; it is a springboard to inspire the innate creative genius within each person that leads to a more joyous, passionate, and harmonious life and world.
